Desert Herding vs Okie Green Pastures

There have been so many changes to our life since moving to Oklahoma almost a year and a half ago. One of the biggest changes has been in how we take care of our goats. In CA we used to feed them hay 2x a day and also try to take them out grazing for an hour or so in the desert brush around our house. The picture below shows what they had to graze on in CA:


In comparison, the 40 acres around our place in Oklahoma is GREEN. Even when it is brown, it is still green!

So, just like us, the goats have had to adjust to the different browse and bugs that come along with greener pastures. It has been a great learning experience.

Zucchini Marmalade

     I found this recipe one day as I was surfin' around the internet trying to come up with creative ways to use all of the 18" zucchinis that are coming out of the gardens around here. I'm not a big fan of cooked zuc so, I set out a recipe quest. Well, I'm the kind of person that will try to make salsa out of just about any fruit or veggie - last year we tried cucumber salsa, blueberry salsa and even blackberry salsa. This year, I found zucchini salsa (that's another post in the makes) and then turned up this recipe.      This stuff is the bomb! What a great recipe this is - it uses up those huge zukes that grow so easily in just about any home garden AND  it gets another veggie into the belly of it's eater. Northeast Oklahoma Hay & Feed Coop

Hello all, We just started a Yahoo group called Northeast Oklahoma Hay & Feed Coop. It is a list for information of hay and feed available in the Northeastern Oklahoma area. It is also going to be sort of a "help" list of information regarding things livestock owners deal with and/or need help with , to name a few: disbudding services, shearing sheep & llamas, locat, good vets, breeding services - just to name a few. Please feel free to join even if you are in one of the states surrounding Northeast Oklahoma.
